The sport centre itself was built in 1980 replacing the "Burevestnik" stadium. It was a special project for the XXII Olympic games held in Moscow and since 19 July 1980 it remains the biggest building of it's kind in Europe and when it was opened there existed no other similar building in the whole world.
The swimming pool construction is remarkable for it's extraordinary architecture with semicircular shapes and stained glass windows. In the swimming pool section of the building there is demonstration pool for swimming lessons and water polo with stands and waterslide, pool for training, gym, massage rooms and solarium.

The roof has interesting shape of parabolic cylinder with 40 degrees angles at the top edges.

Riding on such a roof can be compared to riding on a track - climbing on the higher levels and then rapidly going down from the radius.
